First, a disclaimer...
You have one of my favorite GB sites (the other being
proton charging), due to computer problems I have had
problems accessing your site lately and sending
e-mail. If you have already receive a very similar
sounding letter from me, please ignore this one. I
tried to catch up on the news I have missed, but if I
am re-stating things that have already been addressed,
once again, sorry. The computer I use sucks. Despite
what would be nice, we can't all have MACs :)

Second, the actual e-mail.

I have noticed since the infamous GB3 Access Hollywood
interview a few mis-interpretations on your site as
well as various GB sites. Mainly, Sony/Columbia DO NOT
want to make Blair Witch 2. Even if they wanted to,
Artisan/Haxan films who made the first wouldn't sell
the rights to their biggest hit. Forget the fact that
BL2 is a bad idea (I liked the first one, and hey,
Mike would make a cool GB) but what Dan said didn't
mean that. When Dan stated "the want the next Blair
Witch" he was using Blair Witch as an EXAMPLE, not an
actual movie they wish to produce instead of GB3 or at
all. People seem to be taking his Blair comment too
literally. Dan was alluding to the "cost factor." It
was his way of saying that the company wanted to spend
as little as possible and get the largest profit.
Well, what company wouldn't? Blair is the current hip
example.
Since a slew of huge budgeted movies flopped badly or
didn't cover costs, and many smaller independent films
are making mucho dinero, a rash of slashing back
budgets has hit the studios. As much as I want a GB3,
I can see the studios point. Dan's pitch, from what I
gathered, included some,if not all, of the old crew
training/recruiting a new crew (which,let's face it,
the new crew would be a gamble, they might not click)
for a third sequel at a cost comparable to that of The
Phantom Menace. Frankly, the 120 million price tag,
while I would front it if I was the company, is a bit
hefty. Sure Dan can say they could spend 120 to get
500, but honestly, Dan can't say that for sure. They
could just as easily get 110 for their 120. Even a
slight profit, say 140 for their 120 might not be
worth the expense to the big company when all was said
and done counting advertising costs, video
distribution etc.
Dan's script must be loaded for him to be sticking to
that 120 figure. A lot, of course, will go to the
stars, Murray alone would cost a good chunk even if
it's just a cameo. Plus the new crew would cost a bit
for some decent guys. Back-end deals(less $$$ up front
for a cut of the profits) like I believe some of them
had for GB2 would help keep costs down. But look at
films like The Matrix, Fifth Element, and Lost in
Space. Whether good or not the were loaded with
effects and only cost in the 70-80 million range. Heck
the Lord of the Rings Trilogy Peter Jackson is working
on will cost about 120 million for all 3 films!!!
So do I agree with Sony? No, I think they would make
their money back and awaken their sleeping cash cow.
Do I see where they are coming from? Yes. I feel a
kick ass GB3 could be made in the 80-90 million range.
I guess it's just a matter of who changes their mind
first, Sony or Dan.
My thoughts anyway, long winded as they may be...

Message=Well I have to tell I would enjoy seeing a new GB movie as the next Ghostbusters fan. Well if you look at some of SONY part in the movie bussiness they have not had good hits I cant think of one if they ever had a big hit. Well its stinks that there trying to make a sequel to The Blair Witch Project it will never be good as the first to tell the truth the first wasnt that great. What Sony need to do is share have the budget with Columbia I know Columbia would love to do it unless there in a money situation but they stiilll would do it.I didnt see the interview on TV but it got some people ticked off but I was thinking why didnt the other Ghostbusters go up there escpically Rami.i know Ramis is making a sequal to that movie that came out a while aback if there making a sequal to that movie just called it made about 100 million dollars adn why cant Sony/Columbia make a 1.5 billion sequal, but one of the reasons they are doing this is its old could it still work in the 90's or 2000's. So this is my opionin make it could be become a big hit or it could become a big failure and we might not ever here of it again but always live in us. So there you have it. I talk to you later.

Hi, my name is nathan and i have been at this site since fall of 97. Just about the time extreme ghostbusters came out. I'm a huge fan of GB. But i'd bet you have heard too much of that so i'll spare you the time. I'll get to the point. I am also disappointed (pissed off) that Sony won't make GB3! I'm glad Dan is pasionate on making this movie. But if Sony is isn't going to sell
the rights, then why keep it? They aren't going to make much from it if they aren't going to use those rights to keep ghostbuster alive! I agree with Hayden, who gave us the info about the X-files ( i saw that episode Hayden).
He says that we shoudn't stand down. I have to agree. We have to let FU**in Sony pictures that ghostbusters will sell. Dan's estimate for thier share would be $500 million! $500 million! I think that just cause they put out Blair Witch and it hardly cost them a penny, and just cause they made a ton of money off it, doesn't mean that a sequel will be better. Blair Witch sucked! GB3 would sky rocket off more than BLair Witch. I don't know about you, but i'm not going to see that movie. And i am going to write Sony emails at least once a week to give them a piece of my mind! Its like that movie The Shawshank Redemption.(If you saw that movie) Tim Robbins wrote one letter a week for more books for the prison. Eventually, he got tons of books and money also. I know we won't get any money, but i think if we bug Sony enough, we'll get Ghostbusters 3. Its just a suggestion. Some have already started it. But i think if all the ghostheads who can hear what i'm saying we can make it. Thank you for your time. AND.......as Peter Venkman said before they used proton beams at Gozer's gate....."I'll see you on the other side (Ray)....."

Message=Hi,
First, you have a great website. I've been coming here religiously pretty much daily. Second, I was very upset about the A.H. interview. I was so looking forward to a third or fourth Ghostbusters. I went to Sony's website and sent them a letter. I hope others follow with their own letters. A collective letter or petition might also be a good thing. We have to show Sony how big the Ghostbusters following is. (Like the DVD sales alone wasn't proof enough) Again, great website. If you have any ideas on how to get a petition going let me know, I'm definatly in.

Thanks,
Chris

You have been a beacon in the GB world for me for quite a while. I have recently sent Sony pictures a letter along with twenty friends about how much we hate them. First they botch Godzilla and now no GB. Obviously they kept the rights, because they know it is marketable. Blair witch in my opinion sucked and its fifteen minutes of fame are about over, just like hanson. I am just really pissed. I hope Ackroyd finds a way to do it, because I am sure as hell behind him. I was hoping Universal would get the rights, they have had a good relationship with GB,s.
Once again thanks for your time and email me back.

Hi, I dont know if you remember me, but I sent you the info on the X-FIles season premiere info. I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know I saw the Ghostbusters 3 segment on Access Hollywood with Dan. Being a huge Ghostbusters fan (My fav movie of all time), news of a 2nd sequel was something that I was REALLY excited about. After seeing that segment tonight, I was not only excited, but extremely dissapointed, and very sad. I was excited because it seems Dan is really passionate about getting GB3 on to the screen. It sounds like he has the script and the story ready, and he wants more than anything to get it out there for everyone to enjoy. I'm dissapointed and sad because Sony is making a huge mistake! It sounds like #1. They are being penny pintichers and they don't want to make GB3 if its gonna cost extra dough. (Its one of their top franchises @ 1.5 billion worth!) #2, they wont even sell the rights to it, and make some more money off it that way!! What the hell is up with that?? If you arent goona continue with the franchise in any way shape or form.. let it go.. sell it!! I think I would love to see a GB3 more than anything just like any other ghosthead. I think that right now is the time for you, I, and every other ghostbuster fan to let our own words be known. I think a collabritive letter should be sent to Sony Pictures letting them know just what kind of demand there is for this movie. All the GB fans and Websites should send in a letter with signatures even, letting the big wigs know that this would be in their best interests. I think the GB DVD sales would be a no brainer as to releasing a new movie. For gosh sakes they bought the link for GB3 site.... what do they plan on doing with it?? Hold onto it until the end of time?? I am more than willing to help you if you are interested in writing a letter to the studio, if Dan is this passionate about getting the movie done... we need to be too.

Hope to hear from you soon,
Hayden
