A roller-coaster of a production, Ghostbusters III remains one of the most anticipated sequels in franchise history. With the recent announcement on Access Hollywood that Dan Aykroyd has left Sony Pictures on the account that they would not agree to make Ghostbusters III, the future does look bleak, at least the near future. Dan Aykroyd remains committed to seeing his vision of another Ghostbusters film come to the silver screen.
Ghostbusters HQ will keep you updated to the date on all the happenings, news, rumors, and speculation behind the scenes of the third installment. And as always, the HQ promises to be the definitive source for your latest news.

The day the Ghostheads cried
If this is true it could be a disaster of biblical proportions. The interesting thing of note is that the EXACT same thing happened with GB2 just before everyone came around after a dinner at the Aykroyd Compound about the film, but hey- I still feel like shedding a tear.http://www.aint-it-cool.com/display.cgi?id=6920

Does GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Have A Ghost Of A Chance?
Hey folks, Harry here... Well, shucks... For all of those hanging on to hopes about seeing a third GHOSTBUSTERS film... well, it looks like it is as dead as a dead thing what can't move at all. And from the looks of it, it is all Bill Murray's fault!!!
SO... At least you now know who to direct angry frustrated thoughts at. At a press conference for his latest film, Denys Arcand's "Stardom", here at the TIFF [Toronto International Film Festival], Dan Aykroyd was asked what was happening with Ghostbusters 3. Bluntly, he said "it's dead".
He described it as "a combination of not getting the right story, and the business side of things.". He also stated the primary reason was that Bill Murray didn't want to be involved, and that they all pretty much agreed there wouldn't be much point in doing it without him. He also said that it was a relief when they finally made the decision and he was happy just working as an actor. To my eye though, those statements seemed a tad contrived.

Well, it's better than nothin'
Well, it's not even worth posting a picture of, but the January/February Issue of Cinescape does have indeed a short 15 word blurb in it's MovieWire section on Page 17.
"...Dan Aykroyd has confirmed that a first draft of a Ghostbusters 3 script is finished..."
Well, it's better than nothing, but it's common knowledge. Oh well, at least it's more print.

Update
Thanks to Neil Vitale, the Real Media interview from Access Hollywood is now on GBHQ, make sure you've got the latest G2 player and click here.
Access Hollywood interview
Okay, this is going to be brief, it's 1:30 in the morning and I'm seriously tired, but Chad over at the GB Central has some great multimedia and his persepective on the interview, the HQ's is coming. Here's the gst of my interpretation. There's no way in hell Sony will get rights to the second Blair Witch- even if they did, it'll be the worst flop since Batman and Robin. They'll hang their heads in shame for a little while in the shadow of this studio (cough) Warner probably getting the sequel to a movie which really honestly doesn't deserve a sequel let alone merit the possibility plot-wise for a sequel. Sony will juggle ideas to battle the paranormal sequel- and guess who they'll call. Listen to his tone of voice ghostheads, he's making this movie. Kevin Smith remained passionate about Dogma and look- incredible turnouts at the box office tonight. If Dan remains the same, we'll see our conclusion to the trilogy- without hesitation. More to come tomorrow, Troy need sleep.

POP QUIZ HOTSHOT. . .
You are the famous Rob Cleaton of Bustin Makes Me Feel Good, you're attending the 72nd Shennandoah Apple Blossom Festival where Dan Aykroyd and wife Donna are the Grand Marshalls. What do you do? What do you do? You ask about Ghostbusters 3, and record it, that's what you do.
Rob decided to give the big break to Ghostbusters HQ exclusively and you can see what Dan Aykroyd said in QuickTime video (only 224K, now THAT's cool!) All that you've got to do is click here to see dan.mov
Rob let's us know that this was the only thing that he said about Ghostbusters 3 during the festivities, but he did perform as Elwood on a few occasions. Also of note, take a look at Donna's face when Ghostbusters is mentioned. Both husband and wife's faces light up. Things are looking up Ghostheads!

Dan Aykroyd's Announcement of Projects
Ghostbusters HQ has closely been following announcements of Dan Aykroyd's schedule for the 2000 fiscal year, because it would be safe to assume that there should be a certain sequel love it or hate it on that list. Well, GBHQ has learned that indeed scheduling of the 2000 production year is beginning for Mr. Aykroyd, however public knowledge and/or announcements will not be made until (gasp) December. Looks like the October date was shot down eh?
