It was a long time ago, or rather it seems like it, that i was first inroduced to the wonder of "Ghostbusters". I know it was with the viewing of the movie ( i begged and pleaded for the 'rents to let me see it, the relented, though they thought it was too scarry), where i fell inlove with it all. The action, the adventure, the comedy, all of it waso much fun. "What a ride" i beleve Dan Akroyd mentioned at the beginning of GB2. I have fond memories of a birthday party i had where me and 10 of my closest friend went to see the 1989 release of the movie. I still have the glow in the dark cup from the AMC theaters. I still have all my toys-except for any of the slime( the parents again told me it was too messy)-i remember playing with the action figures with my friends, and even making our own movie which we dressed up for and scripted out and borrowed a neighbors camcorder for.
Fifteen years later, i don't talk to that friend much anymore. I'm
also graduating highschool, preparing for collage, hoping to make films professionally. My toys are mostly up in the attic. My comic books, well, arent' in the best of shape, yet still readable. Things have
changed, so have the people i shared a loveable part of my now
inaccessable childhood with. There are people out there however, who share the love , the excitement and the 'charge' of the ghostbusters.
They know what i mean, they feel it every time the guys rush on to the scene, or even when the librarian first screams, when the guys bust our of the court room, when the unit explodes, when the statue of liberty walks. The hairs still stand up on the backof my head. Looking into the future, i can't see how ghosbusters will effect my life, though i know they'll always be a part of it. Cause they are a part of me, they shaped my childhood in a way im sure most of you can relate to. I still can't beleive that it's been fifteen years already. It seemed like yesterday i was pretending on the playground to be Peter ( i was always peter. ALWAYS) while my friends played their favorites as well. Those were the good times, and I'm sure that with all the fans out there, the good times will keep on rolling, making that long time ago continue to seem just like yesterday.
